March
31, 2003 Richard Frances Heaney, 72 of Chittenango died Sunday at St.
Joseph's Hospital. A native of Syracuse, Mr. Heaney resided in Fayetteville
30 years before moving to Chittenango, 17 years ago. Mr. Heaney retired as a
detective in 1977 after 20 years with the Syracuse Police Department. He
later was employed in the security division of Niagara Mohawk for 14 years,
retiring in 1992. He previously served with the 249th Field Battalion of the
New York National Guard from 1948 to 1957. He was a member of St. Patrick's
Church in Chittenango where he served as a usher and was a member of the St.
Patrick's Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Syracuse
PBA, Syracuse Police Retirees Assoc., The Fraternal Order of Police, The
Police Conference of NY, United Retired Police Assoc., The Utility Employees
Assoc. and a past member of the Fayetteville-Manlius Rod & Gun Club.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, the former Dolores Carey, two daughters
and sons-in-law, Jeannette & Frank LaSala of Pompey and Patricia &
John Golas of Chittenango, a son Daniel R. Heaney of Chittenango, a brother
and sister-in-law, George Donald & Betty Heaney of Fayetteville, ten
grandchildren, one niece and two nephews.
