February 12, 2005 Jim "Hooper" Diamond Jr., 73, beloved
husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to all who knew him, was
called by the Lord to be with Him on February 12. He passed away after a
short, courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Syracuse to the late
James, a firefighter who died fighting the Collins Block fire in 1939, and
Elizabeth (Egan) Diamond McKeever. He attended St. Lucy's Academy in
Syracuse. Jim was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force, having
served in the Korean War. He was employed by the Syracuse Police Department,
retiring after 21 years. He also was employed by Fay's Drug Co., for 20
years. Jim was an active member of the Pastime Athletic Club in Syracuse and
was a founding member of the Rascals Social Organization of Tipperary Hill.
He was predeceased by a sister, Marilyn Diamond Meagher, and stepfather,
James McKeever. Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ellie (Walsh)
Diamond; a son, Jim; daughters, Lisa (Brian Kane) Diamond and Tracey (Kevin)
Diamond Ryan; four grandchildren: Lauren, Jesse, Taylor and T.J., all of
Syracuse. Services: will be held Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at Edward J. Ryan
& Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave., and 1 p.m. in Holy Family
Church, Fairmount, where a celebration Mass will be held. Burial will be in
Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The Syracuse P.B.A. will serve
as honor guards. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the
funeral home. Contributions may be made to The Rascals Family and Friends
