Edward
L. Erwin, died January 19, 2004 at Crouse Hospital following a short
illness. He was born July 17, 1923 in Syracuse, NY. He attended St. Lucy's
High School, and is a WWII Veteran, having served in the European Theatre.
He retired as a Lieutenant from the Syracuse Police Department after serving
35 years. He was responsible for the development of the police patrols in
the Syracuse City School District, and was a member of the peacoat gang. Mr.
Erwin is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Grace M. Erwin (Chrisfield);
and his five children: Edward M., Daniel G., Timothy J., Martin J. Erwin,
and Mary Ellen Holgate (Erwin), all of Syracuse; two sisters, Peg Lake of
Syracuse and Sister Ann Barbara of Latham. In addition, he is survived by
his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services will be held
Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home, and 9
a.m. in The Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception, Syracuse. Burial will be
in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. at
the funeral home, 1628 W. Genesee St., Syracuse. Contributions may be made
to Sisters of St. Joseph's in Latham, NY. Edward J. Ryan & Son,
