Jimmy O'Mara February 28, 2009 February 28,
2009 James L. O'Mara, 75, of Syracuse, passed away Saturday at St. Joseph's
Hospital after a brief illness. A lifetime Syracuse resident, he served in
the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired from the Syracuse Police
Department after 23 years of service. He was a member of the Syracuse PBA and
Valley American Legion Post #1468. Jim and his wife enjoyed winters in
Sarasota, FL. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Marilyn (Dodge) O'Mara;
five children, Patricia (James) Saturno of Syracuse, Steven (Lisa) of Ohio,
Timothy (Janice) of Syracuse, Colleen (David) Sakran of Syracuse and Tom of
Syracuse; seven grandchildren, Erica and Anthony Saturno, Ashley and Aubrey
O'Mara, and Kristen, Meghan and Brian O'Mara; two sisters, Patricia Menapace
and Rose Mary Bronchetti, both of FL; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass
of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Holy Family Church. Burial in
LaFayette Rural Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Whelan
Bros. & Hulchanski Funeral Home, 3700 W. Genesee St. The family would
like to extend their appreciation to the staff of the MICU at St. Joseph's
