B. Skip Wheeler January 20, 2010 Leslie B. Skip Wheeler, 80, passed away
Wednesday, at Community General Hospital. A life resident of Syracuse, he
retired as captain from the Syracuse Police Department in 1988. In his 36
years with the police department, he was an original member of the Syracuse
Police Mounted Patrol and rode horseback during the 1950s providing
protection and assistance to those at the NY State Fair. During his
distinguished years of service, he worked in the Criminal Investigation
Division, commanded the forerunner to the Organized Crime Division, the
Community Services Division, and as court liaison officer for the Police
Department. He also worked with various neighborhood watch groups to make
Syracuse a safer place. Throughout his career, he received numerous medals
and commendations. Since his retirement he loved photography, woodworking,
watching Yankee baseball, and playing with his beloved little dog Hope.
Leslie is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley (Harrington); two
daughters, Lisa of Duanesburg, NY and Deborah (John) Angilletta of Scotia,
NY; two granddaughters, Amber and Sarah Angilletta; niece, Donna (Gary)
Johnson of Camden, NY; and nephew, Kevin Johnson, and several other cousins
and friends. Service: 2 p.m. Saturday at Tindall Funeral Home. Calling hours
will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday prior to the service all at the funeral
home, 1921 W. Genesee St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in
Leslie's name may be made to a local charity of your choice. Tindall Funeral
